Caged Monkey Pattern Tsuba

A Japanese tsuba crossguard with a monkey. This tsuba, or decorative Japanese sword crossguard, is created in a cross pattern as if a set of metal bars, with gold-toned ‘x’ crosshatches at the joints; from one side, a monkey in a gold-toned vest beckons to the viewer while climbing on the “bars”. The tsuba has been mounted for display one a black wooden base. Unsigned.

Condition

- wear, fading residue, rusting and oxidation present on the parts; the monkey figure is loose from the tsuba.
