Alphonse Normandia 1950 Mixed Media Illustration and 1890s Delta Psi Certificate

A gouache, ink and watercolor comic illustration on paper, created in 1950 by artist and New Yorker cartoonist Alphonse Normandia (1928 – 2013). The piece depicts two cartoon figures in an office setting with floral wallpaper; a humorous thank-you greeting ‘to Carl’ is included to the right side, signed ‘from Jock’ and dated 1950. The illustration is signed ‘Alphonse Normandia’ to the lower right, below the greeting. Also included is a circa 1890s Delta Psi fraternity induction certificate lithograph; it features gold tone printed accents, as well as a blue seal to the lower left. Both works are presented in wooden frames, each fitted with hanging wire.
Condition
- toning and discoloration to both works; mat burn and stains to lithograph; lithograph is missing glass; chips, scuffing and scratches to finish of both frames; loose joints to lithograph frame; sticker to frame glass of illustration; wear and tears to illustration frame backing; exposed nails, wear and holes to wooden backing of lithograph frame.
