Hand-Knotted Afghan Refugee Carpet Runner from Peshawari Pakistan
Item Details
A hand-knotted Afghani Bokhara-style wool carpet runner by Serve Carpets. This rug is attributed to Afghan refugees in Peshawar, Pakistan, and it is rendered in a palette of scarlet, ivory, walnut, buff, burnt orange, and indigo. The scarlet colored field features a lattice of elephant’s foot guls, and hooked diamonds throughout. Framing the field is a main walnut grounded stylized floral meander border, as well as an S-patterned guard border, and elem panels with latticed diamonds, and a running dog pattern. Finishing this rug are triple overcast selvedges, and a wool kilim skirt with a fine wool warp fringe to the ends. There is a label to the underside ‘Serve Carpets hand crafted by Afgan refugees’, and ‘Peshawar Pakistan’.
