Hand-Knotted Persian Abadeh Wool Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Persian Abadeh wool area rug. The rug has been worked in abrashed shades of persimmon, clementine, ivory, black, dove, claret, and flamingo. A stepped diamond medallion infilled with a memling gul is flanked by stylized tree of life patterns with serrated leaves. The field is further populated with geometric shapes, pinwheels, and blooming plants. Along each selvedge edge of the lozenge field are long zig-zag columns with horse head capitals. A large ram’s horn medallion anchors each spandrel which is also infilled with a variety of floral motifs. The compound border incorporates narrow flower and boteh, carnation and meander, and serrate band with a wider stylized floral primary border. The selvedges have been overcast and there is warp fringe at each end. A small temporary tag on the underside identifies the country of origin as Iran.
