A plaster ape ‘Darwin’ statue by Marwal Industries, Inc after a sculpture by artist Wolfgang Hugo Rheinhold (1853-1900). This statue is made from plaster with a bronze-tone finish. It depicts an ape seated on a pile of books, scratching its head while holding a human skull. ‘Darwin’ is incised near the base, while the back has an impressed signature ‘M. Lucehesi’. The statue is modeled after a statue by Rheinhold, created in 1892, referred to as ‘Ape with Skull’ or ‘Philosophizing Monkey’.
