Modern artist and printmaker Allan D’Arcangelo was known for his geometric Precisionist compositions of road signs, highways, roadblocks, and industrial landscapes that he began creating in the 1960s after abandoning figural elements. After earning his bachelor’s degree at the University of Buffalo, he moved to New York City and studied at the New School of Social Research and the City University of New York, City College. The artist joined the army in the 1950s and, with the help of the GI Bill, was able to study painting at Mexico City College for a couple years. His work has been collected at numerous prestigious institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Centre Georges Pompidou, among many others.
