Vintage Hand-Knotted Bijar Style Painted Wool Area Rug
Item Details
A vintage hand-knotted Bijar wool area rug. The rug features a field infilled with an overall pattern herati pattern framed by a wide compound border consisting of multiple split leaf and flower, lobed flower, carnation and meander, and herati bands. The rug has been over-painted to enhance colors as well as purposefully distressed to imitate age and wear. The palette includes shades of midnight, indigo, persimmon, camel, sage, ivory, burgundy, and crimson. The selvedges are serged and there is cotton fringe at each end. There is a lozenge in the border at one end with a very faded inscription. The rug is not otherwise marked.
