Hand-Knotted Persian Abadeh Wool Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Persian Abadeh wool area rug. This rug is rendered in a palette of madder red, ivory, indigo, tangerine, pine, sepia, and stone. The madder red colored lozenged field begins with a diamond pendant medallion on a pole of made up of flowering branches, and is infilled with geometric forms. The lozenge is over populated with with an array of animal motifs, florettes, animal head motifs, leaves, cruciforms, more flowering branches, and other filler motifs. Horse head capped columns are each edge, and finish the lozenge. The indigo colored ground features a ram’s horn medallion to each corner, as well as a number of bird motifs, and a row of lilies to the edges. Framing the field is a main split leaf and blossom meander border, along with a sawtooth guard border, and checked minor borders. Finishing this rug are overcast selvedges and a wool and goat hair warp fringe to the ends. Unlabeled.
