Richard G. Sigafoos Signed Oil Painting "Island Solitude"

An oil painting on panel by listed Maine artist Richard G. Sigafoos (1908-1985) titled Island Solitude. This piece depicts a man in yellow fisherman’s waders walking up a rocky shore incline with a wooden fishing trap under one arm. There is a raised house on top of the hill. It is signed to the lower right, labeled with the title and artist’s stamp to the verso. The piece is presented in a painted wood frame with wire to the verso for hanging.
Sigafoos studied art at the Albright Art School in Buffalo, New York, where he also later taught. Known as a muralist, illustrator, and Impressionist style artist, Sigafoos painted murals in the Chicago Tribune tower and was an illustrator for the New York State Education Department.
