A pen and ink drawing on tracing paper by American artist Edgar Yaeger (1904-1997). This figure study depicts a seated nude woman rendered in a loose contour drawing. The piece is signed to the lower right and presented behind an off-white mat with foam core backing in a protective acetate sleeve.
Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso, and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
