An original oil and pastel mixed media painting on paper very well-listed and prolific contemporary German Neo-Expressionist Peter Robert Keil (Berlin; born 1942). The painted depicts an abstracted facial composition created by layering thick black linework over scribbled green and yellow texture. Influenced by German Expressionism and graffiti elements, Keil is known for his simplified abstractions of traditional art subjects. He studied under Otto Nagel at a young age and developed relationships with other renowned artists such as Joan Miro. As Keil abandoned realism and developed his signature style, he used more vibrant colors rapidly applied with large gestural brushstrokes resembling the abstract style of Picasso.
