A hand-knotted Indo-Persian Semnan style area rug. This rug features a wool blend pile on a cotton foundation. It features an allover arabesque motif with Shah Abassi palmettes, vine scrolls, and floral medallions in a palette of cochineal red, sage green, tan, pale blue, dusty pink, ivory, and brown against a dark teal ground. It has a main border with palmettes and vines, flanked by floral meander and sawtooth guard bands. The rug is finished with hand overcast edges and natural cotton warp fringe.
