A circa 1930s watercolor painting on paper titled Looking from the Field by listed Rhode Island artist Arthur S. Douglas (1860 – 1949). The Impressionist-inspired work depicts a bucolic New England landscape under an expansive sky of clouds and pale blue skies. Small houses and green trees line the rolling green hills set against a horizon of distant blue mountains. The work is signed ‘Douglas’ to the lower right. It is matted and presented under glass in a gilt wooden frame fitted with hanging wire to the verso. A Bert Gallery label to the verso lists artist and title information.
Condition
- faint foxing to paper; minor edge wear to frame; tears and tape to frame’s backing paper; discoloration to lower edge of matting.
