A hand-embroidered silk Caucasian Soumak area rug. This rug has a cotton warp foundation, hand-embroidered with silk threads. It features a tribal animal motif with six hooked lozenge medallions in a palette of burnt orange, red, ivory, pale pink, drab green, chartreuse, dark turquoise, and black. It has a main border with a rectilinear leaf and vine pattern, flanked by crab borders with a red ground. The rug is finished in black overcast edges with natural cotton warp fringe.
