A hand-knotted Persian Karaja wool long rug. This rug is rendered in a slight abrashed palette of sapphire, madder red, clementine, emerald, ivory, wine, and black. The madder red colored field begins with a pole of two large serrated hexagonal medallions or lozenges grounded in sapphire, each infilled with smaller pendant medallions and rosette motifs. The field also features small, but highly detailed chickens near the center accompanied with more floral motifs. Framing the field is a geometrically patterned main border of floral motifs, boxes, and animal forms. There is also a carnation meander border, and a S-patterned guard border. Finishing this rug are overcast selvedges and a short cotton warp fringe to the ends, as well as a label to the underside.
