Vintage Hand-Knotted Persian Heriz Serapi Wool Area
Item Details
A vintage hand-knotted Persian Heriz Serapi wool area rug. The rug has been woven using abrash shades of sky blue, midnight, salmon, ivory, indigo, and scarlet. A large geometric pendant medallion is infilled with stepped diamond guls and stylized leaves and surrounded by rectilinear palmettes. The scarlet lozenge field is densely populated with similar leaves and other stylized plant forms. The spandrels have ivory grounds and feature blooming plants as well as geometric palmettes in each corner. The compound border includes guard borders with geometric and split calyx designs flanking a herati and boteh primary border. The selvedges have been overcast and there is short fringe at each end. A temporary tag indicating the country of origin is attached to the underside.
