Item Details
A hand-knotted Tabatabai Tabriz wool area rug. The rug has been woven in vivid shades of crimson, cerulean, flamingo, cobalt, ivory, leaf, robin’s egg blue, umber, pine, and berry. A large lobed pendant medallion anchors the crimson field populated with various types of flowering plants. The edges of the field feature scrolling outlines defining the boundaries between the field and the spandrels which are infilled with lobed flowers and carnations on curvilinear vines with acanthus leaves. The compound borders incorporate reciprocal serrate and floral guard borders which flank a split leaf and palmette design infilled with smaller blossoms. The selvedges have been overcast and there is short fringe at each end. A temporary tag indicating the country of origin is affixed to the underside. Otherwise, the rug is not marked.
