Dorothy Browdy Kushner ( USA 1909-2000)
Originally a teacher, Dorothy Browdy Kusher started her art career as a figural illustrator, influenced by the works of the Ashcan School as well as Art Deco illustrations, while living in New York in the mid to late 1930’s. Working primarily in watercolors, due to an allergy to oil paints, she began to expand her portfolio to include cityscapes. After her marriage in 1942, she moved to California, where she continued landscape painting. Later in life she became heavily influenced by the works of German Abstract Expressionist painters, even studying with artist Richard Rubin. Kusher was active in Artist Associations in California, where she would exhibit her works. Eventually she returned to New York City, where she died in 2000.
