Southeast Asian Batik Cloth
Item Details
A Southeast Asian batik cloth. This piece was created using a wax resist method of dyeing the cloth that creates a signature ‘cracked’ texture on the piece. It depicts two figures in traditional dress, seated with three trees over a border stripe containing elephants. The work is signed to the lower right corner and appears to read ‘Ek Santri’. It is presented behind glass in a wood frame with wire to the verso for hanging.
Condition
- dark blue dye spots from top left through center right; adhesive residue on verso of frame; minor wear to edges of frame.
