Paul Chidlaw Original Charcoal Portrait Drawing
Item Details
An original vine charcoal portrait on paper by well-listed American Abstract Expressionist Paul Chidlaw (Cincinnati, 1900 – 1989). The minimalist drawing depicts a simple portrait, rendered in economical fluid line work. The piece is signed in charcoal to the lower right. It is presented behind a textured taupe and gold tone mat with a brown liner, under glass, in a gold tone wood frame and is ready to hang with a wire.
Chidlaw was born in Cleves, Ohio and studied at both the Cincinnati Art Academy and L’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Fontainebleau, France. He returned to Cincinnati where he then taught at the Art Academy mentoring many students. He was considered a pioneer of the Abstract movement, at the time, and he remains one of Cincinnati’s best-loved native artists. His artwork is displayed in the Cincinnati Art Museum and Xavier University.
