A carved walnut sculpture titled Empty Man by listed Ohio-based artist John Jacob Stanley (1929-2005), created in the 1980s. This work features an abstracted male form with a concave face, hollowed features, and simplified forms. The body slants slightly to the right and rests on a walnut base.
John Jacob Stanley studied at the Art Academy of Cincinnati under Paul Chidlaw, Charles Cutler and Arthur Helwig, and at the Yale Summer Art School under Josef Albers and Peter Blume. He exhibited at galleries in New York City and Cincinnati, and internationally at exhibitions such as the LX Biennale in Paris, France.
