Vintage Louis XVI Style Marquetry Secrétaire à Abattant with Marble Top
Item Details
A vintage Louis XVI style marquetry secrétaire à abattant with a marble top. The case is finished in mixed wood veneers with gilt-metal mounts and trim. It features a rectangular, green marble top with outset corners above a dovetailed, frieze drawer and a hinged, fall front with an inlaid, musical trophy. It opens to a vacant interior and the writing surface extends over a pair of floral-inlaid, blind doors. Flanking the façade are canted, columnar stiles with Classical style, female busts continuing to a shaped, front apron with an applied, lion’s mask cartouche. The case is inscribed ‘CX’ in various spots, otherwise it is unmarked by the maker. A key to the fall front is included.
