An original watercolor painting on paper by American artist Carol J. Mathews (1956 -2015). The abstract painting, rendered in loose broad brushwork in vivid hues, depicts a bird to the lower right, under a swirling night sky. The work is signed to the lower right. It is presented without framing, on a mat board backing and wrapped in plastic. A printed artist bio is present to the verso.
Mathews, known for her colorful and expressive paintings and drawings, describes her work as follows: “having painted for over 25 years, it is difficult to describe my art but whimsical, abstract, and fantasy come to mind.” After years of suffering from mental illness, Carol’s art became a crucial conduit for her internal turmoil.
