A pair of 15th and 16th century hand painted illuminated manuscripts. These pieces present blocks of calligraphic text with ornaments and dropped capital letters. The largest piece is estimated to be dated 1570, from the Book of Hours. It is rendered in ink, tempera and gold leaf on parchment. The smaller item is estimated to be dated 1470, from the Hours of the Virgin, and is rendered in gold leaf and tempera on parchment. They are presented in window mats with protective plastic.
Condition
- some wear to cellophane sleeve of each item; wear to edges of each mat; some warping to each item; rubbing to surface of smaller piece.
