A hand-colored engraving designed by French artist François Dequevauviller (1745-c.1807) after a painting by Swedish artist Niklas Lafrensen (1737-1807), titled L’Assemble au Salon. This print depicts scattered groups of figures playing cards and having conversations, a solitary woman reading by one ceiling-height window and a small pair of dogs wrestling toward the center of the composition’s lower edge. The print is attributed in plate, along with the title and other print information, to its lower edge and is mounted in a wooden frame with a molded fillet and a wire for hanging to its verso.
Condition
- glass could be cleaned more thoroughly; worn frame finish; minor scratches to frame; light foxing; minor marks to surface; tearing to backing paper.
