A Japanese woodblock print After Utagawa Hiroshige’s (歌川 広重, 1797-1858) highly-regarded series Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō. This piece, titled Shōno in Driving Rain (庄野白雨), is number 45 in the series. It depicts a band of travelers walking through a hilly landscape and being pelted by sheets of heavy rain. The artist’s seal, signature, and a printer’s seal are all printed in-block to the lower left, and several characters are printed to the upper left. The print is presented behind glass in a wooden frame with a black finish. A hanging wire is attached to the verso.

Hiroshige was a very well-listed Japanese printer, and is often regarded as the last great master of the ukiyo-e printing tradition.

- light wrinkling; minor scratches to frame; minor stains to border.
