A 19th century folk style crayon portrait on paper of a young girl. This half-body portrait features a frontal perspective of a young girl wearing an embroidered dress and a serious expression on her face. She stands in front of a river and a mountainous landscape visible in the distant background. No signature was found on the work. A handwritten inscription to the verso reads ‘Mrs. B.W. Sawson – Dec 1884 – London Ohio’. The composition is presented under glass in a wood frame with a carved foliate design.

Condition

- some toning throughout composition; some wear in frame includes small chips, scratches, and finish loss scattered throughout; larger chip present to lower left corner of frame.
