Vintage Royal Bonn Vase, Circa 188-1920, and Vintage Nippon Plates

Item Details

A vintage Royal Bonn Vase circa 1888-1920 and two vintage Nippon plates would make an elegant addition to any home.

The Royal Bonn vase dates to 1888-1920 and was produced by Franz Anton Mehlem Earthenware Factory, located in Bonn, Rhineland, Germany. It features a lovely floral motif, heavy gilding and two handles. Back stamp on bottom.

The two plates were made in Japan (Nippon) between 1891 and 1921. All items marked Nippon were due to the McKinley Tariff Act, which required all porcelain to be marked with the country of origin. This porcelain was made specifically to be exported to the west with designs and patterns that suited American’s tastes. In 1921 The United States government changed guidelines so that items no longer were marked ‘Nippon’, but were to be marked with the word ‘Japan’ instead, thus ending the era of Nippon-marked porcelain.

The plates feature ivory outer rims with gilding trim and decorations. The center of the plates are white. Very elegant looking,
