A 1995 Austin Sculpture plaster reproduction figure titled Fame (alternately, Victory), created after a 1760 model in terra-cotta by listed painter and sculptor John Michael Rysbrack (Flemish-British, 1694 – 1770). The original work is housed at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and was created for the Westminster Abbey sculptural memorial in marble for British admiral Edward Vernon. The piece is marked with a signature in mold of ‘Mich Rysbrack fecit 1760’ to the square base of the sculpture, with additional markings in mold of ‘Austin Sculpture 1995’ and the Victoria and Albert Museum’s ‘V&A’ logo. The figure rests on a removable decorative plaster base with scrolled corners surrounding egg and dart motif designs.Condition
- scuffs, marks and accretion to plaster surface; figure includes felt lining to underside.
