Hand-Knotted Persian Khamseh Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted Persian Khamseh area rug. This tribal wool rug is rendered in an abrashed palette of garnet, black, cream, charcoal and tangerine. It begins with three hexagonal pole medallions over a garnet field with charcoal spandrels. Grounded in cream, each medallion contains a smaller, polygonal medallion amid geometric florets and pickets. Populating the field and the spandrels are dense constellations of tribal motifs, including muskas, peacocks, flower stalks, botehs, animal-head motifs, stars and geomtric rosettes. The field is framed by two borders: a picket minor border and an Arab main border grounded in cream, featuring meandering florals. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with variegated fringe made of wool and goat hair. Unlabeled.
