Item Details

A pair of first edition books by John Greenleaf Whittier. This copy of At Sundown (Cambridge: Privately Printed by the Riverside Press, 1890) in inscribed on the flyleaf, ‘To my dear friends Caroline A. Bulla, and Mary W. Bulla / From John (G Whittier) / Oak Knoll / Dec 18 1890’. Also included is a copy of The Tent on the Beach and Other Poems (Boston: Ticknor and Fields, 1867) with an enclosed handwritten letter signed ‘JGW’ and dated 1867. Both books are bound in cloth-covered boards, and At Sundown is stored in a phase box which fits into a slipcase; the box is marked ‘First Edition’ and ‘Douglas Young Jr. Collection’.
