A hand-knotted Persian Nahavand long rug. This wool rug is rendered in a palette of black, scarlet, mustard, rose and sapphire. It features a vase design beginning with a distinctive Nahavand medallion grounded in sapphire, with interior rose-colored irregular lobes, each containing an image of a palmette. The medallion rests on a black field densely populated with geometric rosettes in a wide variety of colors, with a vase at each end, offset by mustard-colored field insets filled with hooked chain motifs. Framing the field are three borders, including a wide main border grounded in scarlet, featuring stylized flowers, palmettes, geometric vines and birds. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with cotton warp fringe. It is unlabeled.
