Item Details
A hand-knotted Persian Qashqai wool area rug. This rug is rendered in a palette of madder red, indigo, ivory, burnt orange, cerulean, emerald, carnation, sepia, ochre, and saffron. The madder red lozenged field begins with a stepped hexagonal pole medallion infilled with a quatrefoil animal head and boteh form along with floral motifs. The lozenge is also over populated with branched floral forms, small florettes, and other geometric symbols, while featuring horse head capped columns at the edges. The indigo colored spandrels mimic the main central medallion along with a series of filler motifs. Framing the field is a serrated leaf and calyx main border, and a pair of sawtooth guard borders. Finishing this rug are overcast selvedges and a wool warp fringe to the ends, as well as visible red weft threads to the underside. Unlabeled.
