An antique Eastern Orthodox Christ Pantocrator icon. The icon features tempera paint on board with elaborate giltwood mount and chased riza (gold plate over .800 silver). The icon depicts Jesus Christ holding the New Testament in his left hand and showing the sign of benediction with his right. A Church Slavonic inscription, ‘Christ Almighty’ (гдь [abbrv.] вседержитель) is situated to the lower margin. The icon is set inside a kiot wooden case with dark stain and glass pane door. The work is unsigned and features hanging hardware to the verso.

Condition

- nicks and wear to edges of display box; dust and accretion throughout; locking and closing hardware is worn; tarnishing to surface of gold plate and silver; top right of gold plate and silver is bowed; large split down wood to the case verso.
