A pair of early 20th century Fang Culture Byeri reliquary carved wooden figures depicting a male ‘thinker’ and kneeling female, both from the Cameroon/Gabon region in Africa. Both figures are typical of the ancestral memorial carvings with meditative expressions and heart shaped faces having stylized features, pronounced brows and forehead. The dark patina of each indicating ritual use.
