Item Details
A hand-knotted Southwest Persian pictorial wool area rug. This rug is rendered in a bold palette of rust, deep indigo, ivory, clementine, taupe, pine, slate, mustard, jade, olive, and wheat. The rust colored lozenge is grounded by a deep indigo hued field with serrated leaf tipped spandrels. The lozenge begins with a octagonal medallion infilled with rectilinear forms, and flanked by latticed palmettes with branched elements, and animal head motifs. There are also four large highly detailed bird motifs to each corner, along with a row of flowers to each edge of the lozenge. Framing the field is a main two-petal calyx meander border, along with an S-form patterned guard border, and a minor sawtooth border. Finishing this rug are overcast selvedges and a wool warp fringe to the ends. Unlabeled.
