Antique Dutch "Stoelklok" Wall Clock, Circa 1800
Item Details
An antique Dutch Stoelklok wall clock, circa 1800. The wooden, black-painted case is applied with gilt, cast-lead ornaments and embellished with polychromed figural motifs, including mermaids. It features an arched top with an ornately-pierced pediment depicting rampant lions and a central shield above a metal dial with a Dutch landscape scene and a Roman numeral chapter ring. The dial has a pierced, scrolled surround topped by a rooster with a winged cherub at the bottom. There are glass doors on the sides of the case opening to a brass movement with a bell, pendulum, chains, and weights.

- clock is untested; case with scattered wear and repairs/restorations, including some breaks and bends to cast lead mounts and some paint losses and spots of later overpainting; front right corner of shelf with a repair to molding; arched top of clock covered with a later, pressed board; some light oxidation to left door.
