A watercolor painting titled Capped Man in Red by 20th century American artist Edgar Yaeger (1904 – 1997). This painting features a minimalistic figure wearing a cap rendered with a linear form and expressive imagery. This work is signed ‘E. Yaeger 1937’ to the lower center of the picture plane. This piece is presented in a wooden frame, under acrylic glass, with a wire hanger to the verso.
Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso, and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
