A oil painting of a nude figure by 20th century American artist Edgar Yaeger (1904 – 1997). This painting depicts a nude female figure posed formally while sitting atop a stool. It is rendered with expressive brushstrokes and vibrant hues of color. This work is signed ‘Edgar Yaeger 1931’ to the lower right corner of the picture plane. This piece is presented unframed and without hanging hardware.
Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso, and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
