Antique Gibraltar Embroidery with Vintage Offset and Serving Tray
Item Details
Unsigned
An antique Gibraltar embroidered textile to the base of a wicker and glass serving tray. The embroidery features a blue ground with an eagle in flight, and four American flags. The two front-most flags feature twenty-five stars each, which indicated an 1836 construction. The piece is embroidered ‘Gibraltar Presents’ to the top and includes a foliate detail to the bottom with a vintage life-saver detail to the center. The red and white life-saver to the center frames an offset lithograph of a building. The offset was added much later to the work, most likely sometime after the turn of the 20th century. A note from the seller indicates that the embroidery was created to celebrate an American ship’s visit to Gibraltar.
Condition
- water damage and staining to the fabric visible and the offset lithograph to the center shows damage and spotting; some discoloration to the underside.
