Carved Luba Bowl Bearer and Headrest

A hand carved Luba bowl bearer figure and Luba head rest. The bowl bearer shows a kneeling female presenting a bowl which she supports with her knees. The bowl bearer is a sacred position and the bowl itself of mboko is related to divination. The head rest has a seated figure as one support and a second carved support with head and elaborate hair style. The head rest keeps a sleepers head off the ground and protects the elaborate hair styles of this culture which can take days to create.

Condition

- to fair- head rest figure has a broken foot.
