Born in Cuba of Jewish origin, Baruj Salinas is known for his abstract expressionist works in which color plays the primary focus. The artist received a degree in architecture from the University of Ohio, then moved to Miami, and later settled in Barcelona, studying with Joan Miró and Antoni Tàpies. His work has been collected by numerous institutions including the Art Institute of Chicago; the National Museum of Catalonia, Barcelona; and the National Institute of Fine Arts, Mexico City, among others.
