Alabaster

A late 20th-century carved alabaster figure by an anonymous artist. The piece depicts a seated female figure in a ruffled bodice and long skirt. She is depicted reaching up to arrange her hair as a cupid figure rests against her right knee. No signatures or maker’s marks were found. The piece includes a round black marble base with rubber feet mounted to the underside.

Condition

- to poor; several broken and missing pieces including cupid’s arms and fingers on woman’s right hand; breakage and repair to woman’s right arm and wrist, with cracks still visible; hairline crack running horizontally along figure’s skirt; scattered scratches, nicks, discoloration, accretion and marks to surface; base is good with minor scratching and wear.
