Two sets of framed graphite caricatures on paper of poilus, created in the early 19th century. One framed composition features two full-body caricatures of a grenadier and an infantryman on separate sheets of yellow paper, mounted on a maroon surface. The other composition features full-body caricatures of infantrymen on separate sheets of off-white paper; the left figure is depicted at rest, and the right is depicted in an attentive stance. These drawings are also mounted on a maroon surface. All four drawings are signed with the artist’s monogram, possibly reading ‘RJ’. They are presented under glass in matching wood frames with gold-tone liners.
