First Edition, Second State "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" in Hardcover

An antique hardcover copy of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, published 1900 by the Geo. M. Hill Co. of New York and Chicago. This would be considered a first edition, second state copy, with the following changes from the first state: no box around the advertisements on p. 2; first line of p. 14 reads ‘low wail of’; p. 81 fourth line from the bottom spells ‘pieces’ correctly; p. 227 first line reads ‘while the Woodman’; colophon in 13 lines with no box; verso title page has copyright; imperfect type to pages 100 and 186. The plate facing p. 34 is in the first state, with two dark blue blots to the moon, and the plate facing p. 92 is in the second state, without red shading to the horizon. One plate is missing: ‘the tree fell with a crash into the gulf’ opposite p. 116. It has been professionally restored with a spine from the second edition printed by Bobs Merrill. Approximately the last 20 pages have been replaced and are facsimile.
