An antique pastel and ink portrait on paper of a British military officer drawn by listed artist Alexander Blaikley (Scottish, 1816-1903). The poised young man in uniform is depicted with dark curly hair and beard, standing with his hand on sword and hat to his side. It is drawn in a palette of red, white, black and blue. Beneath the portrait on the mat is a hand printed description, ‘Portrait of a Military Officer, by A. Blaikley 1846’. The drawing is artist signed and dated in pencil to lower left. It is presented under glass in a rosewood finished frame with a white mat and wire to the verso for hanging. Blaikley is recognized for his silhouettes, portraits and landscapes and his works are well represented, including at the National Galleries Scotland.
