Verdant Landscape by Taki Tu, 1989
Item Details
A softly drawn, Impressionistic landscape showing a grove of trees in a sunny meadow with lush mountains beyond. Signed lower right, ‘’T. Tu’’ for Taki Tu (Taiwanese-American, b. 1928), a listed artist, and dated May 1989.
A rare medium for the artist, this drawing captures Tu’s technical use of texture and color as well as his focus on perspective. Inspired by Cezanne and Van Gogh, Taki Tu received formal training at the University of California, Berkeley, and continued his studies in oil with Pam Glover and in watercolor with Charles Reid. Tu’s work has been the subject of numerous solo-exhibitions throughout the Bay Area as well as at the Carmel Art Festival (2003-2005, 2008-2009) and the San Luis Obispo Art Festival (2006-2007). In addition to painting, Tu was an accomplished medical practitioner and has over 30 published articles on his clinical research. Upon retirement, Tu held the title of Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at UCSF.
