A mixed media drawing titled Eden Left the Heartland: The New Acadia by artist Robert Llewellyn. This painterly piece depicts an atmospheric landscape with a box holding a geometric composition to its lower edge. The work is signed and titled toward the lower margin and is presented unframed with a label bearing the artist’s name to its verso.
Robert Llewelyn is Professor Emeritus at Frostburg State University, where he serves as Department Chair and graduate and undergraduate Printmaking studio instructor. He is a graduate of The Maryland Institute College of Art / MFA, Morgan State University / BA with post graduate study at Yale University / NEH grant focused on the Iconography of Rembrandt’s Etchings. His continuing creative production resulted in a portfolio featuring National and International exhibitions and awares. His bibliography includes critical reviews and features in noted publications A Critical Journal, Arteur Visual Codex 2002 and Amnesis Art: The Art of the Lost Object, Nicomedes Suarez Aruez.
His youth on the Chesapeake Bay and years in rural Western Maryland refined his interest in nature as a subject matter. These forms providing an arena where content can exist between representation and abstraction with multiple levels of reference and association. His images are meant to provoke experience and transcend the immediate object. In keeping with print and drawing media, this motif provides enigmatic images on a primary level that become complex due to the direct characteristics of line and surface. With this focus specific concerns with memory content reflect a more immediate visual record of experience.
