Vintage Japanese Carved Wood Screen with Abalone Inlay
Item Details
A Japanese four-panel folding screen. The wood screen features a black painted finish with four arched panels. The panel frames are embellished with shallow bamboo leaf carvings, and there are carved flower designs at the tops, under the arches. The centers of the panels are embellished with a continuous landscape scene including a mountain, water, houses and people, all inlaid with iridescent abalone chips. There are carved and scrolled panels at the bottoms, and the screen rests on straight, square legs. The back sides of the panels are painted red, with gold colored stenciled flower motifs. No maker’s marks.
