A late 19th-century oil painting on canvas of a forest landscape, signed ‘Stanley’. This work features a rocky pond in the foreground with a built wood platform in front of a dense forest. The painting is signed and dated to the lower left, however the date is partially obscured by the frame. The canvas is mounted on board and presented in a wood frame with a dark cherry finish and a gold-tone sight edge. A handwritten dedication from St. G. Stanley to Alice Mary Woodbury, dated 1876, is adhered to the verso. A typed version of the dedication is also attached.

Condition

- some rippling throughout canvas; some rubbing and minor paint loss along edges of painting; some wear to frame includes stains, scratches, and finish loss scattered throughout.
